Description
Hand-painted leather hide featuring a portrait of a native American chief, complete with headdress peace medal, beaded war shirt, etc. Figure rendered in red, white, blue, yellow and brown pigments. Long leather fringe extends from the lower edge and the body of the hide shows surface discoloration, edge losses, small holes and tears. Included are handwritten papers and a yellow note referencing the name "Charles F. Lashley" estate. Lineage dates back over 130 years. Identity of chief unknown.
